Default Gomer

There was an episode of Gomer Pyle USMC where Sgt. Carter sold Gomer his convertable because it got horrible gas mileage and ran poorly. Gomer adjusted the carbs and it started running great. The quartermaster guy decided to play a trick and started sneaking out to gomer's new car and putting gas in it at night. When Gomer checked the Mileage he was getting around 50MPG! Carter wanted his car back when he heard that so gomer sold it back to him. The quartermaster started siphoning gas out of the car at night so the car only got about a half a mile per gallon! Sounds like a good joke to play on this fuel mizer guy!!!!

Default some will go as far as not using anything electronic because of the added engine load

or use defrost to clear a foggy windshield, since it often runs the AC to dry the air.

stupid concept, and dangerous for everybody. No power assist brakes, steering, no way to accelerate from a hazard if need be, because you're coasting along with your engine off.

They're often coasting along below the speed limit too, so even driving at the speed limit, you could quickly catch/overtake/hit one of these cars.

I might even go as far as to say one slow driver blocking up a lane on a 4 lane highway creates enough of a bottleneck that the resulting change in traffic pattern/speed forces everyone to collectively use more fuel than the one jackass is saving.

Default Actually a couple techniques are the same as racing......

Be smooth, plan ahead, stay off the brake.

Default they were doing it in columbus circle yesterday in NYC>>>>

on CNN, apparently going slow enough to have the horse drawn buggies passing them and the drivers yelling obscenities at them! So Mike tells me...

The scary part of this type of thing is that there are people out there now that will try this without understanding that when you shut the car off, you have no power to your brakes and steering.

I guess if i showed them my 32mpg on a recent trip would throw a wrench in the situation a bit..
