ARGH. got towed today....

ARGH. got towed today....
oh and getting towed in NYC is NOT the same as getting towed in other places...
parked on some 'white line' in LIC that i wasn't aware was 'illegal' to park on....every car on that block got towed as well.
car ended up underneath some nasty, disgusting, hell-ish bridge out in the middle of nowhere in Queens.....going there was like going straight to HELL.
got escorted in a cop car to my car to get papers...escorted BACK to the bunker and waited and waited and waited....
5 fookin hours later....a dusty, written with white chalk all over the window, ticketed (yeah, another $115 ticket) and $185 later....
got my TT back.
god knows how the towed it. probably dragged the rear wheels the whole way...
as much as i love NYC....i hate it sometimes as well.

How long did it take to find out where the car was?
The one time I got towed in Manhattan, nobody could tell me where they took the car. I called the local precinct, they told me to call the sheriff. I called and the sheriff tole me to call the precinct, I was still assumng it got towed and wasn't stolen. Luckily a guy I worked with had his towed a few weeks earlier so he knew where it probably was taken to (a lovely spot on the west side). Once I found it, it only took about an hour to get it back, not the whole production like what they put you through.

you were lucky.
since the car was towed in Queens.....life was far far worse. the ghettoness factor kicked in.
when i found out the car was towed, i literally RAN to the police station about a mile down the street...to see if the car was still over there.
When i got there, they told me that it takes 3 hours for the car to be entered into the system...and that they couldn't tell me where it is...and that i'd have to WAIT there to find out.
I said I NEED THE CAR NOW, to get the hospital...to get back to work.....so i asked em where 'most' of the cars from the area get towed....and then 20 minutes later, ended up under some insane bridge....with 1000s of cars....dumped....
the process took many hours, because there were SO MANY people there trying to get their cars back. madness!

Cheaper though... I remember about 15 years ago my moms car was stolen while we>>>
were in the store shopping. They found the car that night and took it to a yard. Told my mom the next morning and she went to go get it. It cost her over $500 to retrieve her car and it was stolen from her. Was only there for about 12 total. they said if it hit 24 hours it would almost double.
