Default Boost Gauge Install Questions

Hi All,

Just ordered my vent ring from modshack and a prosport gauge. Before the stuff gets here, I had some questions.

#1 Where is the best place to tap in the engine compartment to attach the hose from the gauge? I've seen the FPR, DV, or the vac line coming from the manifold. Which is best?

#2 Where should I connect the white "live" wire from the gauge to a power source? I've seen it connected to the x75 terminal and spliced onto the light blue headlight switch wire. Which is the SAFEST (no fires please)? Also I've seen it recommended that an inline fuse be used on the white wire. Is this necessary? If so, what amp should I use? 10 or 5?

Thanks in advance!!!

Default Answers here...........

Tap into the FPR and use the blue wire on the back of the headlight switch for variable voltage for the backlight.

http://public.fotki.com/blackfnTTruck/defi_boost_gauge_install/</a

Thanks blackfnTTruck!

Do you think I need an inline fuse for the connection to the blue headlight wire?

Or is that only needed if I connect to the x75 terminal?

Default It will not hurt to use one, and it can be rated very low. A 5 amp would be fine, and a I bet a

1-amp would work as well.

Default As Mike said it probably wouldn't hurt, probably better to place a fuse at....

the blue wire connection, that way if the wire rubs on the frame somewhere, you'll be safe. I know the specs on the Defi gauges, pull about 240ma fully powered. The 75x terminal is +12 volts with ignition on, if you use that one, you should definitely use a fuse, at the connection site. I used that for power on the Defi gauges and used a 1 amp fuse.

Default Thanks for the info blackfnTTruck and Mike!!!

Thanks for the info blackfnTTruck and Mike!!!

I've got the euro mirrors and APR chip..soon will have the boost gauge.

Can't wait to see the gauge in action. I'm particulary curious because I sense that immediately after start up the boost is strong on acceleration from a dead stop but after a few mins of driving, it seems like I don't have any boost taking off from stop signs. Hopefully I can see what's going on with the gauge!
