Default Flamesuit on...speaker replacement....(sorry in advance)

So I've been following and researching some replacements for the Bose system in the TT. I have no interest in changing out the head unit at the moment, but I have a blown passenger speaker and the noise is killing me.

The Replacement - Install 2-ohm Infinity speakers to replace my door units. Beyond this, I will have a pair of unused crossovers as I'm seeing I can use the existing stock crossovers built into the doors.

The Idea - Since I'll have "extra" crossovers and "extra" tweeters sitting around, I thought I might add additional sound by using the crossovers to split the rear speaker source and moving the old door tweeters to a position closer to the ears and behind the seats. Perhaps over the shoulder.

The Question - I don't believe crossovers are subject to impedance, but I have little experience in the stereo section. Are they subject or will I find this to be a bad idea?

First crossovers are subject to impedience, you don't get something for nothing.

But putting that aside for a minute adding tweeters in the back usually doens't work out well. High frequencies are directional and their positioning and angle define the sound stage in the car which is usually set up to be in front you, centered over the dashboard. Tweeters behind your head will mess up the staging and you ears will be "pulled" towards the back of the car. In Audiophile grade systems, rear speakers are used for fill only (I've installed systems like this). Highs are almost usually reduced and sometimes the rear channels are run in mono. The bose system in our cars does this, the rear channels are connected together and ran in mono off of the same channel of the bose amp. This makes adding speakers to the rear more complex.

Default skip rears altogether

focus on two channels in front. you won't miss the rear fill.

Default The only viable options

would be to relocate the tweeters to the a-pillars or the corners of the dash. Making it look nice would be the problem.

Default That's true....There are some nice surface mt. options...>>

I did that years ago on a Miata. Focusing and bouncing the tweets off the windshield was great for presence and sound stage, specially in a roadster..

Default So far my favorite setup (wouldn't work in the TT) >>

was in my old grand am. I used these controlled dispersion horns that mounted under the dash. They were amazing.

Default On replacing the headunit>

I didn't want to either. I just did. My god these speakers sound so much better. The bass isn't muddy and distored anymore, there is actually a midrange. Also you can hear the music clear doing 100mph with the windows down!

I bought a blaupunkt SD48. it's all stock colors except 1 blue button I'm going to cover up. The screen can be adjusted to any color in the spectrum.

I have heard infinity speakers, kappa, kappa perfects, referances. I'm not impressed. I find them to be a cheap japanese tinny sounding speaker.

I really didn't expect much out of the Bose that are in the car. Honestly with the stock headunit i swore up and down that they were garbage, but for the price (free) you can't beat the deal.

Give it a go.

On the crossovers, I wouldn't add that into the system like that.

I have a set waiting to be installed, but plan on using the crossovers that came with the speakers.
