Default time to upgrade brakes... couple questions >>

i wann replace rotors and pads all the way around. but keeping the factory rotor size and factory calipers.

i know i wanna do hawk pads (or something of equivalent performance)

rotors... i wanna do cross drilled and slotted (or one or the other)

so where can i order pads, and performance rotors but keep the factory size?

also... the pistons on the TT >> are they the 'screw in' pistons, or 'push in' pistons?

thanks guys

Default Some answers..

I highly suggest Ferodo 2500's front and rear. One of the best street pads around.

As for rotors - i'd do slotted instead of drilled/slotted. Any good quality rotor will work.

Piston on the front caliper is push in and screw in on the rears.

I'd also upgrade the fluid to Motul 600 and honestly - go to stainless lines in the front. That will make a big difference in pedal feel.

I went with DBA slotted rotors in the front and Brembo slotted rear. Carbotech pads, Tyrol stiffeners, Goodridge brakeline kit, and a full bleed and flush (don't forget the clutch). That combination works great for me.

The front calipers push in and are easy. The Carbotech pads don't have wear indicators so I just cut off the old ones and soldered the wires together so the light wouldn't go on in the dash.

The rear calipers are a pain - they turn in. Get the tool from Autozone (pay a deposit and return for full refund). Spend a few dollars and get an impact hammer and new screws for the rotors. You'll be glad you did.

Don't think you really need the screw - it just holds the rotor in place while you mount everything up. Got the screws from PUREMS and I think they carry the Carbotech pads. Got the rotors and brake lines from Tire Rack, the Tyrol stiffeners from Tyrol's web site. You can order Motul just about anywhere on the web.

Since I'm **** about the car I even got all the carrier bolts replaced from ECS.

Had Ferodo pads before and they work great but the brake dust was a killer. I can't tell the difference in performance from the Carbotech pads.

Default Email these guys

they don't carry the stoptech stage II kit (rotors, pads, fluid and lines), but they can put the kit together piecemeal and it ends up being cheaper. Just tell them what you want and they'll give you a quote.

Default I just replaced to brembo rotors and Hawk performance ceramic pads

I used to run the hawk hps+ pads with zimermann drilled rotors on my 85 4000q that i autoxed and DD, the hawk pads WORK!! i was running falken azenis 205/40/17's on heavy wheels($100 for the set ill take the weight!) with stock calipers and they had NO trouble stopping or locking those wheels...
hps's were dusty and noisy, now The ceramics work real well and are not dusty or noisy, and seem to work real well with the brembo replacement rotors.
oh and i drive about 700 miles a week and do not baby it
I got all of it from tire rack

Default You have gotten lots of good advice------>

I currently have Brembo slotted rotors - Hawk HP+ pads, Goodridge lines, Tyrol stiffeners, and it works well. Yes, I still look at Stoptechs. Never satisfied:-)
Look at this site. It has good pad info.
Different people have different needs. You will need to make your pad decision based on your driving characteristics. One note. I tried the Hawk Performance Ceramics and was not pleased. Not enough bite. Required high pedal effort.

http://www.purems.com/products/page.php?pageKey=10</a
