Default mini dragon of the north?

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcdJvOKVhVc">Part I</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp_ycF7q4TA">Part II</a>

This is the Appalachian Gap in Vermont Traveling westward. This was my first time on this road, so first pass traveling east was slow and easy, so I wouldn't have any surprises. Return trip, the camera was rolling.
It's about 40 minutes south of me. I'm in Burlington VT. Lovely view from the top (the transition between vids). I got out and snapped a pic real quick. Try to get that uploaded later tonight.
My Continental ContiExtremeContacts complained from time to time, but did their job well enough for a saturday afternoon drive. My IC's complained a bit more. It hit 100°F driving to the mountain, and at the peak, it was still 86°. Wish I hadn't loaned my vag-com out, I'd like to have checked oil temp with the 16 row mocal cooler I installed this spring.

Old vid, from when I had my 180, but still a fun drive. Can't believe the more twisty section is a 55 zone, while the easy half is 35mph.

Default MINI dragon!!! Well, what the hell do I call it to imply a twisty road?!

Closest I've come to the REAL dragon was 50 miles outside Asheville NC, and it took me 5hrs to get that far, and I still needed to get back to Rocky Mount NC that night.

Someday....

Default Call it what it is, a nice twisty road >>>

Which is all that the dragon is. Big deal, it has a fancy name and gets alot of hype, there are plenty of roads just as good if not better.

Default Well, it's the App Gap, suppose that'll do. Know any other good twisties in the NE

I believe you're down around the bear mt. area? I've done that too, stumbled across it bypassing 87 last summer when a rig full of blasting caps flipped over on an exit. Was trying to get to Greenwood Lakes for a telecomm job.

Default what a jokester!

It may have been just into colorado, but it could have been nebraska too.... I drove for an hour in a straight line, was startled by a 90° right turn, followed by a 90° left turn, and then continued driving for another hour. I think they aimed the road at someones house, and then had to cut around their property or something...

Default I think this was it.

Ok, so maybe not a 90 exactly, but close enough when you're driving it. Just funny to see drive dead straight for so long, and then make a couple quick turns before driving dead straight forever again.<ul><li><a href="http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&amp;ll=39.521754,-101.555986&amp;spn=0.022279,0.053644&amp;z=15">htt p://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&amp;ll=39.521754,-101.555986&amp;spn=0.022279,0.053644&amp;z=15</a</li></ul>

Default The NE is pretty big

I have a list of roads I want to try eventually but what I have actually driven has been mostly in and around the catskills area (The link in my sig liks to my pics from some of them). I furthest north i've gone has been across the water from you, although I have a whole new england thing planned for either this or next year. Ilion gorge is probably one of the top ones around here, I still have to get there at some point this year.

I could be wrong but for dragon-ish type roads it's better further south (WV/VA/NC). A good example is where TT-East is this year.

Yes I live near bear mtn, it's a nice place to drive and makes a good spot for a gtg but it's starting to loose it's appeal as I drive more roads.

Default I used to live about 30 minutes from the Ilion gorge. I'd take that route whenever I could.

Maybe I can meet you down there for a drive sometime. My fam. is still down there.
Thats a pretty long haul for either of us though for a quick 6 miles of turns.

Here are 2 more good drives in upstate NY.

<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=14543231289300225290,42.929 550,-75.848110&saddr=Fenner+St+%4042.929550,+-75.848110&daddr=43.042798,-75.865402&mra=mi&mrsp=1,0&sz=11&sll=42.988074,-75.809097&sspn=0.178308,0.420227&ie=UTF8&z=11">Rou te 13 from Caz to Chittenango</a>

<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=7234109037349111489,42.8499 90,-74.861510&saddr=Weeks+Rd+%4042.849990,+-74.861510&daddr=42.93481,-74.712868&mra=mi&mrsp=1,0&sz=12&sll=42.931039,-74.7575&sspn=0.089237,0.210114&ie=UTF8&z=12">Route 80 around Van Hornsville (nice lookin little town set in something of a gorge)</a>

And I'm sure you know about 8, and 9W, perhaps even Rt. 30 and 10 heading up thru the Adirondack state lands.

Family has a place on Caroga lake just in the Adirondack foothills. Really nice area.
