Default my car went into limp mode tonight on the way to my friend's house

it's like the car has an infinitely powerful virus that is just taking over its very living soul.

i never knew such relatively simple problems could cause so much sadness..

i want my baby back..

still no check engine light, still wont start after hot stop, still showing 121 on the HVAC (almost continuously now)... fans on at highway speeds (not supposed to happen)...

i hope they can narrow down the issue tomorrow. if they can't i'm calling the dealer. fark.

Default does it lose coolant? does it smoke white smoke from the exhaust at startup for a time?

Hoping not. Symptoms would indicate head gasket. If good there I would suspect 1. Waterpump impeller. 2. thermostat.

Good luck. Stop driving that thing till you fix it.

Default

Water Pump and/or t-stat. Replace both, ASAP. Not TOO pricey, but grit your teeth.

Default but those are both working fine...?

we checked operation of BOTH t-stat (87 degree) and the water pump (fully intact and spinning) last week.

on the ride to work this morning my mechanic was 'startled' by the behavior exhibited by the climate control block 49 readouts, he said it wasn't possible for the car to jump around like it was.

Default Were fine last week?

I wonder if something is inside the cooling system. Have you checked return flow to the reservoir? Is that line flashing to steam and raising temps in the system?

Default 2 cents if you want it.

im assuming you have vag com,
1. clean you coolant tank level sensor
****be carful not to burn your self*****
2. locate the return hose from your heater core in the engine bay near the fire wall, run the engine up to temp,
if its cold, your heater core is blocked,
3. check you radiator inlet and outlet lines for a huge diference in temp/ feelable pressure by hand, if there is a huge disparity between the pressure and return, radiator has an issue.
4.after run coolant pump https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/1521900.phtml
5.using vag com, go to engine, *with engine off*
select output tests, and go through them all, the after run coolant pump should get activated.
6. next, go to instruments in vag com, again select output test, this will let you know if your cluster is ok or not for calibration, exp. all the needles will move together.
7. hvac, output test.
mabee this will help, or not.

https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/1521900.phtml</a

Default return line to the reservoir?

the little tiny hose? WTF does that tell you? check for flow at big upper & lower hoses.
