Anyone here ever replace the camshaft position sensor?
Been getting error codes due to this -or maybe
a real underlying problem. The sensor is $99
at ECS, so thought I might start there. While
the removal/installation of the part itself
looks easy, access looks really awkward - and
I'm not exactly sure how I'd do it.
Also- anything else I should look into - error code P0012?

hi Scot, yours is a variable valve timing engine IIRC...
P0012 says "VVT is over retarded"
so consider:
in addition to the camshaft position sensor, oil pressure is used to retard the cams under ECU control. There's a "camshaft adjustment valve"... the 1-N205, that controls the flow of oil onto mechanical camshaft adjusters...
the Bentley points at this N205 valve as the primary "suspect" with your code

Must be a pay update?
Just updated via the program and it just gave me
version 2.5 service pack 3. There is a link
from the P0012 discussion to testing camshaft
timing, but that section that link refers to
doesn't exist! I did find the N205 in the manual
and the picture makes it look easy to locate- will
check out the real thing later.
I took the sensor cable on and off a few times
yesterday to see if that did anything -drove to
Waimea and back today and the code didn't return,
but time will tell if that's all it was or not...
Gonna be at Shasta next week, by the way- been
meaning to let you know - will at least
call, but can't come up this time- Atsuko's
missing shasta, but arriving SFO on Sunday.

ps- I think there's four other TTs on the
island - a white and sliver coupe and a black
and silver convertible, although I don't see any of them often, so there could be fewer now...
