Front bearing finally done..Somewhat PITA
The tricky part is removing the tie rod ends. A splitter tool is needed as well as knowing where to hit the tie rod with a hammer to undo the tie rod bolt.
You must rent a hub puller in order to get the hub/knuckle out from the axle. I rented one for free from Autozone. Hub came out real easy with this tool.
Its best to just remove the whole steering knuckle out and take the whole unit to a shop. I had the shop remove the old bearing and the new one pressed in for $50.
Putting the ball joint nut is also tricky since a torque wrench cannot fit in there. Just make sure you use a new nut with nylon lock ends and get the longest wrench to tighten it as much as you can. (the nylon lock nut should hold it in place).
I did mark the control arm before taking the nuts apart. But since I remove the whole knuckle out of the car, I will need an alignment.
Whats weird is that mysterious "clunk" or "pop" when slowly backing up or turning is now gone. I wonder which component had to do with it? Sway bar link, strut housing, tie rod?
