Today I saw a Black 2000 Coupe Quattro. 81k miles and for $8k, my buddy snatched it before he let me look at it. Not bad I guess...

Well, pop the hood and... I am not sure I will forget this anytime soon; the thing was comically dirty!

Then I test drove it. oh my!

Suspension : shot
Alignment: way off
Tires: the poor tires
Brakes: shot
The exhaust: strangely loud for a stock
Instrument cluster: shot
Engine response and smoothness: dump truck
The clutch feels very weird.
Shift ****: broken
ESP and airbag lights are on.
Rear view mirror: non OEM
The doors are in terrible shape, I do not think they were ever lubed.
The previous owner changed the water pump, but not the timing belt!

The previous owner, get this, worked for the UN. And says he 'took care' of it. I guess I know what he really means by that.

My buddy took the car to a mechanic first, who said the thing runs very rich and a bunch of other stuff I forget; will look at the list again soon. Oh, and it is smashed up just a bit on the front driver side.

It runs nothing like my Roadster, and I mean it is a far cry from what mine feels like at 65k.

I am out here in Bahrain, and good shops and parts are hard to come by.

We'll call the project: Arabian Dark Knight. Get it?

Will try to snap photos and share the horror of the mechanics out here. So far the spreadsheet I have shows up to $8k for parts and labor to turn this bum to a beast. I can't wait. Luckily by buddy has the cash.
