1st to 2nd shift

Shifting from first to second isnt as smooth as it should be, there is no grinding at all, it just doesnt seem to glide from first to second as the other gears do on the shifter. IE: when im going from 1 to 2, it doesnt slide in as well on the actual shifter and the actual shifts arent very smooth. Any ideas? Hopefully not a syncro issue.

have you changed your tranny fluid to redline? has solved many problems here before..

Could also try realigning the shift mechanism

Im a mechanical noob, was wondering if there was any how to articles on how to change transmission fluid on a 02 180Q

in my own case, neither a change to new juice (two different versions of Amsoil) nor a linkage adjustment did the trick. I'm convinced my 1-2 syncho is wonky. Slow and careful shifts are required for me. And this is a known, and oft complained-about issue on TTs and other A4-platform VW cars (NBs, Golfs and Jettas).

But you might get lucky--adjust the linkage and change out the fluid to Amsoil or Redline. As 01TT225 sez, the oil change procedure is in the FAQ. You might need a Bentley for the linkage adjustment procedure, although it only takes 5-10 mins. If you don't have a Bentley, check DieselGeek's webpage; I think he has a good procedure, with pics, which can be adapted for the OEM linkage adjustment.
