Starting out in 1st/2nd faster
Im new to driving a manual and could use some tips on how to take off quicker at stoplights and stuff like that while daily driving as well as smoothing out my shifts. When im sitting there stopped should i be giving it gas to get the RPMs up as i let the clutch out in first and around what rpm should i be shifting to second? Any other tips for driving a manual would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

You'll get hundreds of ideas and view points--just keep your foot off
the clutch as much as possible- read traffic so your not on & off gas & clutch all the time. You really should not have to "get the revs up" to start with practice it will come natural. Shifting is more by engine sound and feel-don't want to whined it out too much- of course I'm an old fart so I guess if I were younger I'd just say-beat the **** out of it!!

gas in, clutch out, manipulate these two simultaneous actions until you have a smooth take-off.
shifting from 1st to 2nd depends on the situation, but anywhere from 3-4k on average is where i do it, wanna be right in the torque band.
if i'm econo-box driving i'll shift right into second as soon as i'm moving, like 2-3k rpms.

well, this is what i do, and i'm not sure if it's healthy for the clutch>>
release clutch slowly till about half and then give it some gas while continuing to release clutch and take off! that way you are never revving and holding your clutch at part travel!-the experts here can correct me if i'm wrong...but as Badd TT bone said, there're many ideas and view points regarding this issue! i do it this way because it helps if you are starting up an incline(cities like san fran, seattle) as 2001 was too early a year for hill-hold/hill assist to be offered on manual cars!!
