Default tubing for oil pressure gauge.. nylon, copper recommended, or copper required?

Installing a gauge soon, and wondered if I need to use copper tubing to the gauge. Copper is such a PITA to route, if I can get away with the plastic stuff like the boost gauge uses, I'd like to.

If I have to use copper, well, I guess I'll quit whining and use copper.

Default I wouldn't recommend a Mechanical pressure gauge.....>

do they even still make them?...LOL..

Most all modern oil pressure gauges use an electical sender and wiring to connect the two...

Default I'd like to piggy back Schwing's recommendation at staying AWAY from a mechanical oil pressure gauge

I had a TERRIBLE experience with the one I had installed in my Honda Prelude. Lets just say leak at one of the fittings caused a nice pool of black gold in my passenger side footwell. Thank goodness I was just testing it in my garage.

Default If mechanical...

definitely Nylon 12. It's hydrocarbon resistant (VW and others use it as fuel line). Copper will work harden and eventually crack from vibration.

Default Already have the gauge (sport-comp II), got it, and a volt gauge off here.

A closer look at the autometer site reveals that it would have come with nylon tubing had I bought it new.

I'll stick with that, especially after the insight into the age hardening copper.

Theres slowly becoming less and less interior to my interior, so I'm not super worried about leaks ruining anything. No concerns short of emptying my oil pan, and I really hope I notice something long before that happens.

Thanks for the info guys.

Default I think you're gonna be sorry...>>

Rigging a fitting to the pressure port is already a big PITA. Adding compression fittings and the potential for leaks and line chafe is just gonna make it worse..

Sport-Comp comes in a sender style too..

Default This wouldn't be the first time I've heard 'you'll be sorry'.

The gauge is already in hand, I'm really not interested in buying another one and trying to offload this one.

I consider myself mechanically capable, if I can't get a hose fitting to seal, and it ends up dumping hot oil all over the car, well, guess I deserve it.

I'll be sure to post carnage pics if something does go wrong. May it serve as a warning to others.
