Driver side:

turns out i needed new replacement upper strut bearings. the stockers were flat as a pancake. this worked, and all is now well....
here is what it looked like after the new suspension went in and before i got the upper strut bearings replaced- look at the wacky line-up job:

The kit was from ECS, which I know was of the stiffer variety.

As I recall the brand of shocks you were mounting were Koni's or another brand....
The shaft size may have been different, it looks like it punched through the (too large) hole in the Spring perch (#7) that you used..or it was left out completely as Wil mentioned

My brother took my used Bilstein HDs. So it should work with the stock parts without issue.
Looks like we have some certainty the job was botched. Will give the shop a chance to explain, of course.
