Default New 3.2 Owner: Now how do I soften my suspension?

Hello all. Picked up a 2004 CPO 3.2 DSG Coupe over Memorial Day weekend. Having a blast so far. Wife says "We're NEVER selling this car!".

Question: Are there any suspension kits available for the VR6 Quattro that offer a somewhat softer ride? Did a search but found mostly info for 1.8T models. Love the handling but the ride on L.A freeways is a bit "jouncy". Not interested in lowering at this point, just a little smoother ride.

Thanks in advance

Default Not especially. You could get Koni adjustables and go very soft, but LA may not do anyway.

The Koni FSD is supple, but not soft. I have a set: love them. And, some report that the spring perch is at the wrong height, making the car sit a bit higher. Mine don't, but check them if you buy.

Default Try this!

Try the Koni FSD shocks. You will only be able to lower the 3.2 about an inch because of how low the oil sump pan is. Look into the exhaust mod and the "wak-box" mod for free things to do to improve the car. You will love the sound of that V6 even more after these!

Default Considering Koni Sports myself . . .

Also have a 3.2, with 40k+. Stock Audi shocks are known to be a weak point, beginning to show their wear already at about 20k. My biggest complaint is excessive harshness over potholes, road irregularities, etc. In addition, I'd like a little more body control. Some jouncy-ness is inherent in our cars due to the short wheelbase.

I've considered the FSDs, but am worried about the ride height issue and possible spring perch problems. Our 3.2s are already higher than other TTs; definitely don't want to jack it up any more. Michael at Pure Motorsports (purems.com) recommends Koni Sports for use with stock springs. A more comfortable set-up, he feels, than Bilsteins. And you can adjust rebound, which might help reduce the jouncy-ness.

You could go with the FSD/Eibach kit. It will lower the car some. The question is whether you'll need camber adjustment at that point. I just don't want to deal with that complication; hence my intention to retain stock springs.

Unfortunately, suspension choices for the 3.2 aren't clearcut.

Default Koni FSD's work good

I replaced my shocks at 65K, they were toast. Put on some Koni FSD's and they are comfortable to me. I don't want to lower car because of low oil pan anyways.

Could also switch to 17" wheels and less agressive tires would probably provide a bit more cushion.

Default Easiest change is to move up a tire size, get a little more sidewall....

....we do it in the Northeast to protect our rims from potholes....try 235/40/18.

Thanks all for your responses. I may try those Konis. I'll report back when I do.
