Instrument Cluster weirdness

Instrument Cluster weirdness
Upon starting the car this AM, the very bottom of the center instrument cluster display (where you can look at either MPG, avg MPG, avg MPH or Hours Run) had the little red light dots out. So you could only see the top half of the numbers (WTF?)
About 5 miles into my 60 mile commute to work, they came back on...
Just checked in the parking lot after the car has sat for 2+ hours and they are normal. Am I falling victim to the infamous Instrument Cluster Failure? All other electrical is just fine. I've got 182K miles on this '02 225 Coupe and really don't want to shell out the bucks to replace the IC.
Advice??????
