has anyone used the vw coolant? both need to mix with water. which bring me to the next question is there coolant available that i don't have to mix before i use it? thanks for any info
Some people claim the VW stuff is made by Pentosin, but I've never seen any documentation to back that up.
I think it's more likely to be BASF Glysantin G 30, and that the newer VW G12+ is Glysantin G 30-91. G 30 is pink, like the older VW G12, G 30-91 is violet, just like the newer G12. Pentosin AFAIK is only available in pink. I believe that VW changed colors to help avoid confusion with some other manufacturer's pink-colored OAT coolants.
...so bottom line, do i have to use distilled water or i can just use the regular stuff; pour that straight into the reservoir and let the system mix by itself?
again thanks for the clarification.
The best way to check to see if the mixture is correct is to use a refractometer, but a simple $5 "floating ball" type from your FLAPS will work well enough. (they're available for testing both ethylene glycol and propylene glycol based antifreeze - G12 is ethylene glycol)
