How to get new key....cut and programmed?

Awhile back, an indy shop I had dropped my car off at lost my key. It was in a taped envelope and they said that 'the key was not in there'.

Luckily, if it was stolen, the car was still there.

My question is where can I get a blank key made, cut, and programmed? I have the other key to mate, if that is needed. Anyone know how much?

I'm guessing dealer...

I bought new keys from someone on the tex..>>

and took them to a locksmith who cut "sidewinder" style keys.

I programed the two using my VAG-com.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71439">Used this method</a></li></ul>

I recently paid $75 for the key blade/imobilizer chip side of key

I already had the remote. Got my new cluster and bought the extra key so they could program the immobilizer to the cluster at the same time.
Pretty sure only the dealer can program the key to the car. Programming remote control functions is easy DIY.

Which key? The one with the fob or like the valet key?

Also another tip when having the keys cut, if you look..>>

there is a drift pin to remove the key piece from the fob. Remove both from the fob, the original and the blank (you can see the drift pin with the key partially swung open).

I bought a switch blade key and a valet key on Ebay for my daughters Passat. Sweet talked the VW dealer into cutting and synching them. He charged $100 for that. Was way cheaper than buying the key from him. They work fine.
