I am not an A4 guy. Got TT back after 10days at dealership and A4 loaner.
Have been having tiptronic issues since I got it in march of this year (05 TTC180tip) with now 25K miles. abrupt, sometimes violent 1st-2nd upshift and diffuculty moving shifter out of park. no codes and couldn't reproduce last march. this time, no codes either but at least they could reproduce. so they replaced the 'valve body.' Said it was the first one they've ever replaced. Had it not been under warranty, said it would have been in the $1500-$2000 range: ouch!
Re the A4, I was pleasantly surprised by the 2008 A4's 2.0 with CVT but otherwise it was an adquate $25K sedan. Problem was the S-line sticker said $32K.

Had an 09 loaner a few weeks ago>
some parts i LOVED, others...not so much
it was just a BIG car
i liked the size of my B5 more than the B8
but like you said... I like the TT more than all of the above!
Hope the VB was the problem!

Careful... Tiptronic and DSG are not the same
But replacement of something that a service department has never replaced before isn't enough evidence to say no to DSG. I've always thought automatics were cheaper to maintain than manuals...
