TT USED 2 have hum in 2nd @2850rpm (quit @2950). After moving subframe during alignment >
Here's the deal. While driving and shifting from 1st to 2nd, at 2850rpm, a distinct grunt (or HUMMMM was heard). It lasted a very short time (less than a second) and was NOT reproduceable through any other gear or speed.
Today, while having the car aligned, because the shop could not get the toe and camber to where I wanted it (specs provided here), I asked them to loosen the "cradle" and shift it opposite of where they had the ball joints maxed out (ball joint/control arm connections were pushed as far to the right as possible). So, sub-frame was shifted 1/4" to the left (driver's side). Car is still not driving straight and steering wheel is not at 12 o'clock, but that's another story.
Now, when driving, I can hear the "honk" (it's more of a HMMMMmm (and can be felt ever-so-slightly in the steering wheel)) in 1st at 2500rpm, then in 2nd from 2500-3400rpm AND from 4500-5000rpm. AND, it's also the same in 3rd at 2500.
Obviously the shifting of the sub-frame has brought some piece of thin (tinny) metal closer to some other thicker piece of metal (the car) and as the engine/transmission sing through the revolutions and gears, a harmonic frequency is being re-produced through this area.
This sound cannot be reproduced when the car is parked (transmission not engaged), so it's only heard while moving.
It sounds like it's coming from a point forward of where the driver sits, but not exactly sure.
So, LONG post (sorry), but short question: ANYONE ever have this, hear of it, OR have an idea of where I can look to try to remove this?
May not be irritating to you (if you had it), but I'd rather not listen to it.
TIA
Have you checked all of your exhaust hangers?

I did, however, find the shop failed to connect the belly pan to the wheel well and the sound I am hearing IS a vibration of some sort. Am doing an engine flush today, so when the car is on the ramps, I'll re-connect and check the underside of the car very carefully.
Thanks.
