Default misfireing 01 225

after replacing the TIP, re-routing a few additional hoses, two sets of spark plugs, i am getting a crazy misfire. I have borrowed a VAG-COM and am trying to get it to tell me whats going on, but am only getting two DTC's. SAIC, and O2Sensor. Neither of which I would think would cause this strong of a back fire. Before I had my appointment for a chip the car actually popped a CEL, random misfires and cyl#3 misfires. the folks who did my chip told me it was bad spark plugs(hence the two sets)and said my "old style" coils were not the problem, that is was a possible leak in the PCV system.

Question 1: How can I read which cylinders are misfireing?

Question 2: How can I locate leak without spraying down the engine bay in starter fluid and wait for rpm fluctuations?

your old style coilpacks are probably the problem.

Default 1 2 3 4 when you are starring into engine bay from outside the vehicle>>>

swap coils 3 and 4 to find out if it is your coil pack. If it is a leak in the pcv system poke around to see if you can hear any air or see any oil residue.

Default That's what I was thinking, oh and by the way, .

$200 dollars for the replacement of four spark plugs is outrageous! especially when it does nothing.

A bit on the high side, plugs are $50, it should only be about 45 minutes of labor

Chipping will always exagerate any problems you had. Too late now. Chances are you have bad coilpaks "assuming" your guys are putting in the right plugs, gapped correctly. Misfires point to coilpaks OR a bad wiring harness..

Throwing more parts at an incorrectly diagnosed problem is not the way to go, unless you want to make yor tech rich..2 sets of plugs tell me they have failied to find the real problem.

the first set of plugs was my idea when I had the top end dissasembled. yeah I know its not the best idea to make modifications during diagnostics, but I was hoping that the program would fix some parameter, oops.

figured out how to get the VAG-COM to tell me which cylinders are missing, #1 and 2 starting around 3500rpms. any insight?

Default Swap your coilpaks...>

Move 1 and 2 to 3 and 4 and see if the misfires follow the paks....If they do you've nailed down the problem..

If not I'd look carefuly at the harness for breaks in the insulation and misfires caused by that...

This assuming the plugs are correct..
