Noob Question - What is the fuse box on top of the battery for?

I checked the Bentley and I'm still not clear. I looked in it and the fuses are missing

manifold power distribution

the silver strips are 'fusable links' they melt, as you can see.

It distributes high-current +12VDC into the cabin to these terminals.
