Hey .. I thought Quattro was supposed to be awesome?!!
Now, this is my first winter with Quattro, and I have yet to give it a really good workout. So, I decided I'd jump off I94 at Waukegan Rd, and take a bit of a scenic route back to my place (in Evanston). It was a good thing, too, because as I was heading up the exit ramp I could see the spur was backed up all the way to the Edens.
I have always enjoyed charging around Forestway Drive (which runs alongside the Skokie Lagoons - paralell to the Edens), so I couldn't pass up this opportunity to give it a shot with a bit of snow around.
The good news is that it was pretty much un-plowed .. the bad news is that I was stuck behind a Camery and a Caddy doing about 10 MPH (it's normally 45!). Now, I wasn't going to go hooning around here with snow around .. but 10MPH?! Even in my old Jetta I would have gone at least twice that.
Amuzingly, there was a Toyota SUV behind me, and an A4 behind that .. all three of us were tearing our hair out in frustration.
So, I think Audi should change their advertising slogon to something like: "The only bad thing about Quattro, is that not everyone has it!".
I did get to have a bit of fun before I got home, and I'm astounded by how well Quattro performs. A friend of mine used to own an A6 several years ago, he told me that the Audi club used to organize Auto-X events on frozen lakes in southern Wisconsin. Does that still happen? I'd love to try it.
