Default Just a tad too late to enter,....

I got the entry forms for the 1975 8-hour Nurburgring amateur enduro. from a friend in today's mail.

Lord it's a funny read. Apparently it's illegal to spit out the window at officials as you pass by. This race was hosted by Scuderia Blau-weiss (The Blue & White stable), a BMW club,... so that might explain the anti-spitting rule.

The cars were classed into four groups.
1) production cars 850cc-2000+cc in 7 classes
2) special touring cars 850cc-3000+ in 8 classes
3) grand touring cars 1600cc and up
4) special grand touring cars 1600 and up

Absolutely no definition of what makes a car a grand tourer as opposed to special tourer or production car. No yard stick whatsoever for you to class your car prior to showing up for the race beyond it's displacement.

Yikes! Kinda makes ya greatfull for our classification / points system.

... I find the required entry info.

license plate: TT TANZ 2
make: Audi
Type: TT
chassis No.: XXXXXXX
coachwork: roadster
no. of seats: 2
engine mfgr.: Volkswagen
engine serial No.: XXXXXXX
engine displacement: 1800cc
tire dimensions: 225-45-17

I think that would have put my TT in ,...
group-2 special tourer (SCCA SM-2?)
class-13 1600-2000cc

There's a section asking what mods. are on the car, but it's a whole different world from how we class cars today.

Default 1975 = open face helmet...

... and remember it was less than 10 years after Jackie Stewart was the first to start wearing a safety harness. It wasn't until the late sixties that anyone in an open car started wearing belts of any kind (most drivers prefered to be thrown clear of the wreck). Oh brother, I'm showing my age now!
