Gonna have some SSR's and R Compounds for Grattan!
I got the quote from Fikse to repair the wheels.....let's just say it's A LOT! Only six of the eight rim halves were out of spec.
Regardless, they couldn't repair them for at least a week. I have these damn tires sitting in my garage and Grattan next weekend.
I called my buddy Luke at the tirerack.....he found some discontinued 18x9 SSR GT1 bright silver wheels in stock, they are forged and shot peened......for $250 each.

So these will be my track wheels.....
Now if I can get that guy to take the wheels back....he said he would....or I'll just no reserve them on ebay.
Wonder what kind of lap times I'm going to turn this time at Grattan!!!

I just got my quotes, I found an Audi certified paint shop in Lake Bluff, Ultimate Paint Shop. There guys are all certified by Audi, they have trained in Germany, and they utilize the same paint process that Audi uses from the factory. It's kinda cool, when you pull into the shop, you see an Audi sign under there sign. They had rows of Audi's and Porsches they are working on. I spoke with Craig, the manager, very nice guy, who knows a LOT. I guess this place is right down the street from Rousch Performance, they actually do business together in certain cases. I am thinking gunmetal would look good, he was telling me he could do a polished lip on the SL's and do the spokes black or gunmetal, but I don't know, I have never seen that done on SL's before.

maybe we can get them done together, and get a group rate. I went to 2 places yesterday, both can get the job done. Ultimate is one of those hidden places that doesn't have a website, doesn't need to do a lot of advertising, but does amazing, high end work. I would highly recommend stopping by and talking to Craig. They are factory authorized by Audi too.

The other place I went to was Wheels America in Arlington Heights. I spoke to Ramone, the manager, and he took me in the back to look at some wheels that had been done. I really liked the gunmetal, but he was showing me a rim that had been polished, and was saying he could paint the spokes black and polish the lip. The work I saw looked great. They wanted $599 to refinish all 4 rims, fix that back rim, remount, and balance the tires. And they said it would take only 2 days to do.
Both places give a lifetime warranty on their work. If you would like, I can try to work out a discount if we do this together, potentially with maybe one other person. Lemme know Adam if you plan on doing this.<ul><li><a href="http://www.fixrim.com/">http://www.fixrim.com/</a</li></ul>
