NOTE TO ALL! Governor "Blunder" Blagojevich has put Speed Bumps that bend wheels in front of ALL...
of the tollbooths (well, many, all in the next 4-6 weeks).
As you approach at highway speeds, you will find a speed bump about 1/4 mile out at most toll booths. The speed bumps WERE TOTALLY UMARKED LAST WEEK and I saw one where I-55 joins I-355 (on 355) and one on the edens spur in Northbrook heading East/South bound.
People were pulled over at each picking up hub caps and changing tires/wheels. Unreal.
Totally unpained and no signs!
Our wonderful gov raised the tolls on trucks from $1 to $6.40-$8.00 per toll, depending on the time. For me to hit the indiana line from Mundelein WOULD cost me $28.40, but I don't take the tolls in general anymore.
Our Gov promised his toll increases would raise revenue (on the tollway that was supposed to be toll free by the mid 80's) by 27%. Instead, tollway revenue is up 3% and traffic on the edens, etc is up 38%.
Genius!
I have so many other Blagojevich Blunders it's scary.
Oh, and I'm sure he'll just have the IDOT write you a check for your bent $2000-$8000 in wheels and tires. Don't worry, the checks in the mail.

I hit one of those going eastbound on 94...
I thought it was a bad patch job...guess not...

I am SO against the tollway authority and I-PASS ...
that I have only used the toll roads MAYBE 5 or 6 times since 1/1/05, and only then out of absolute necessity (ie: I was super late already)
Illinois has THE WORST ROADS of any state that I've ever driven in or through. I'll be damned if I'm dumping more cash into a system that more or less exists because it employs thousands of state employees.
IMO, the toll increase was a way to forceably "encourage" motorists to get IPASS. My theory is that once you stop physically handling money, you lose appreciation for how much of your money you are dumping into the toll baskets each month. Just another re-charge on the old debit card.
Mark my words; in a short time the toll increase will be applied to IPASS users as well. My guess is it will be justified by unexpected costs associated to the 355 extension, or some other BS reasons. Either way, all tolls will go up, and it will be sooner rather than later. Believe that.

Talked to the toll booth operator. He said they installed them last week.
Said there were countless damaged cars over the first day alone.
Rod the tool thinks it will be safer at the toll booths to slow everyone down beforehand.
I guess parked cars on the shoulders, blow outs and panic swerving will be really, really safe.
