Default Who's got 1...

18"x8.5" RS4 rep wheel for sale?
Looks like I'll have to destroy one to get the
"useless friggin' McGard wheel lock" off,
even Al @ CP&T could not get it off.
Any suggestions?
FARK!!!! :-/

Default No torch @ the crib,

plus wouldn't the wheel melt
before the hardened tool steel stud?
Al suggested a hole saw... :-(
Hey Bill S. can't I Tig/Mig weld a
little rod to the broken wheel
lock then twist it off all as one?
Or go ballistic with a plasma cutter?

Default Drill it out, weld something to it, chill it with freon and hit with chisel, heat with torch and

then try and remove it.

Also just try banging on it while it's very hot with a ball peen.

Default Almost.

I would TIG a nut to the top of the wheel lock, then wrench it off..

The superior control you get with TIG welding would probably do no damage to the wheel if in the hands of a skilled person.

Default Get a bigger hammer, pound a slightly smaller socket on

Then get a real impact gun and go to town. It'll come off eventually.

If that fails, weld a nut to the end.

You should be able to get it off without destroying the rim, that'd be a last last last resort IMO.

Default ^^^This has worked for me in the past.

Use a 12 point socket you're willing to sacrifice. I've even taken some carborundum cloth and used that between the socket and the nut to give it a little extra bite.

Default Done this a few times...

...on various wheels. I've used the "hammer a bigger socket on" method as well as plain ol' visegrips. I've heard of people welding a nut to the lock, but never seen it in person. Either way, if you chip up the rim a little, I know a great source for rim repair.

Default Easier said then done...

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/52926/mccraplock.jpg"></center><p>I drilled down through the actual lock, and it looks
like the tool steel runs down the shaft of
the stud. Going to Suburban Welding
tomorrow a.m. in Franklin Park, "over by der".
