woohoo check out what I found.
I was walking to class and I see this little SAE car sitting inthe middle of the quad. so I walk over and start talking to a couple of guys who are trying to get people interested in Cornell racing. well they have a team meeting on wednesday so i thik i'm going to check it out just to see whats going on.
I think they mostly do time trials and auto-x type stuff but it could still be fun.

http://fsae.mae.cornell.edu/</a

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I am in the Duke University Formula SAE team this year. I can't wait! We dont have NEARLY the same resources as the cornell team (and many others) but there are a few neat tricks up the sleeve for this year (finally got some interest in the program after finishing in the top 1/3 and surviving the endurance races last year).
As for the format, i believe there are 8 events, some of them being auto-x, acceleration, braking, etc. (no road course though, as you said...too bad). There is also a design and sales pitch part of the competition where you try to impress some of the big manufacturer sponsors (Ford, i think, and others).
