Just moments ago I witnessed a small miracle. My office overlooks the corner of Franklin and Washington Streets in Chicago. I can clearly view a loading zone parking area on Franklin and I get to watch many cars towed from this area. A dark green Audi A6 Avant is parked in the space; a City of Chicago tow truck approached. The tow truck driver stops and positions his truck to tow away the Audi. I gasp. The driver exits his truck and looks at the tailgate spotting the small quattro badge. He looks into the cabin and evidently notices that the car is an automatic. The tow truck driver returns to his truck and proceeds to write notes on a pad of paper and then he drives off!

As I write this the Audi driver returns, with coffee in hand. He enters his car and drives off, none the wiser that Audi's quattro just saved him a couple of hundred $$ in towing fees, not including the huge expense of drivetrain damage!!

I've had a quattro towed, while the parking brake was up and in 1st gear.

 

I've noticed that the city tow truck drivers are very knowledgeable of the cars that they tow. They are very carefull in towing to prevent damage to the car. If it is a rear-wheel drive then the rear is hoisted. If it is a front-wheeler then the front is raised. In this case the tow truck driver recognized the quattro badge and that it was an automatic. To avoid damage to the car, he left it alone. He may have called to have the car ticketed or booted but the driver left before any else happened.

in the city and was parked legally at a meter....I guess the meter ran out and the next thing I know a tow truck pulled up in front of the van...and started to hook it up......I jumped out and scared the $hit out of the tow truck driver....put some $ in the meter and that was that....he went on his merry way and towed someone else up the street...

 

Too bad if you are debadged I guess ...I have Quattro on frame plate tho
