Service woes at McGrath
I bring my TT into McGrath for it's 40k service. As usual I bring my own synthetic... when I pick up the car I pop the hood to take a peek and <i>"hmmm, what's that? looks like an old dirty oil filter."</i> I call the friendly service advisor over and point this out; he rushes back and returns apologetically saying the tech forgot it. :-/
Oh well, things happen. I hang around another 30 mins while the tech changes the filter (which of course has already mixed its old dirty oil into my brand new clean synth). I drive home and poke around under the hood. The damn tech overfilled the oil... almost 1" over the full mark. <i>"WTF? I only brought 5 qts in for a 4.8qt change..."</i>
Now I'm really pissed. After driving it up on ramps in my garage I drained a FULL QUART just to get it to the top of the full marks. God only knows what he did to the Haldex?
The service advisor was very accomodating, but this isn't the 1st time McGrath techs have left things undone--when they did my alignment, they didn't bother to adjust the obviously out-of-spec rear camber and I had to make 2 return trips until they got it right.
All the free coffee in the world and nice waiting rooms can't compensate for careless or overlooked service.
<b>Grrrrr....</b>
Almost every time my car is serviced at the dealer, they overfill the crankcase.
And the qt I drained off doesn't look clear-like-honey either... it's fairly dark. So I'm <u>not</u> a happy camper.

Would be happy to have the car back and recheck everything again, maybe have the car detailed for your trouble.

VW/Audi oil filters for Golfs and TTs claim 2 yrs/30,000 miles (printed on the filter body). This is for the European market where extended drain intervals are common, but it does suggest the oil filter can handle significantly longer intervals than we use here.
