From: Mid-atlantic
Default Dave's right - I ran BHF as well. Impressions:

What I'm most amazed by is how many people that are on this forum actually go out and run Quattro Club events. Neither the North East or the Mid-Atlantic chapters had the same percentage of AWers at the track. All of the Quattro Club events I've been to (and that's not a small #) have been run very smoothly, with a firm tone as to safety. I've had instructors which in my opinion were excellent and others who didn't "mash" with my developmental needs or learning style. However those were quickly rotated by the organizers and replaced with someone better matched to me. Personally, the biggest differentiator between chapters has been passing rules. I had a number of "unhappy" events w/ the NE chapter where a single car caused a train and even though I would pull into the pits, I would catch up to the same car 2 laps later and not be allowed to pass. That's a bad mark on the chapter rules & instructor perhaps even more than the student. I've never had such an incident occur with the Chicago Chapter, and always received (and gave) timely point bys. However, I think the Mid-Atlantic chapter has the best approach: It is the responsibility of the car that is causing a train to clear it, not that of those behind him/her.

Overall, I think the Chicago Chapter follows and furthers the high marks and reputation of the Quattro Club (erm...ACCCCCCC now I guess). I've had two wonderful instructors so far, met a lot of great folks and can't wait to tackle the rest of the local tracks next year.

Hope this answered your question - if you're looking for specific points of comparision let me know and I'll be happy to answer (whether here or in private).

Default Ok. For next year, plan on...

Grattan in Grand Rapids. It's usually the last week in April / first week in May. The exact date is yet to be determined, but that is one place you can't miss.

Gingerman ain't bad if you've never been and Waterford hills is supposed to be fun as well (I couldn't make it last year).

All of the above are run by folks from the Michigan chapter - a great bunch of guys / gals who put on a wonderful event.

As far as the "train" issue, we try to adapt the make-up of the run groups dynamically during the course of the weekend to keep the groups pretty even in terms of ability level. For many, it was their first time at this track so the variance in learning curves could have caused a problem. You were in a pretty quick group and everyone in that group was pretty experienced.

We need to twist your arm into becoming an instructor. Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested.

Mid-Ohio, Road America too. And hopefully Putnam can be resurrected as well.
