Update: Jump Start From Hell
Just dropped er off at Chicago Performance & Tuning in Melrose park, having heard so many here recommend them.
As you may recall, the transmission got messed up by a jump start performed by our parking garage, and Laurel Audi in Westmont could not find any cause, leading them to surmise that it's "possibly" a trans valve body. "Possibly" left me uncomfortable given that Laurel estimated $2,100 to replace that.
Al at CPT inspired confidence, however. Just something about him.

Time for an oil change?
Apparently, this is a vexing problem. Al says he doesn't have a car like mine to swap parts out of to help find the problem.
Do you have a 2000 A6 2.8 and maybe need an oil change? heh.
