Default It appears USAA will no longer cover me at track events

Going through my insurance policy, they made changes to the definition of "Driving contest or challenge", which is now excluded for liability:

Driving contest or challenger includes, but is not limited to:

1. A competition against other people, vehicles, or time.

2. An activity that challengers the speed or handling characteristics of a vehicle or improves or demonstrates driving skills, provided the activity occurs on a track or course that is closed from nonparticipants.

Looks like it is time to get another quote!

Paul, is your concern liability, physical damage, or both?

State Farm has had that exclusion for some time. There is track insurance though.

Default That's not entirely true. State Farm does exclude race events held for competition, but

they do not specifically exclude driver educational events. I even have it in writing from my State Farm agent that so long as it is a driver educational event and there is no speed contest, then I have coverage.

That's why we stress so much that this is not a race.

Default There is a track specific policy you can purchase for the phys dam only on your car, but no one

off the top of my head comes to for the liability. I'm sure you can find a policy, but it's in all likelihood cost prohibitive for the amount of time we spend doing what we do.

I'm always on the lookout for a liability policy. If I total my car, I'll eat the phys dam portion of it, but it's the unknown costs associated with actually hitting someone else and the bodily injury that can occur, regardless of how "ironclad" you may think a track waiver may be.

Default Interesting question as to what one's liability exposure actually IS on the track. Might...

...want to chat with a lawyer. Seems to me, if you t-boned some doofus into the next life and it happened on a track in even a mildly competitive setting, it would be pretty difficult for "fault" to be established. But, what do I know?

Default Please, you're underestimating the greediness of the corporate legal system here.

Just wait until you squash someone at the track and the estate of the dead person comes after you because little Johnny no longer has a father figure to show him how to play pee wee T-ball. See how that plays in the hands of a jury. Worse yet, you don't kill the person but make them a vegetable.

Just remember, somewhere out there are 12 jurors that found OJ innocent. Never underestimate the stupidity of humans.
