Default moving companies are evil! specifically, samson moving & storage

They refuse to acknowledge they lost my $700 rug from storage. Instead, they are claiming that they found it, and delivered it to me - an outright lie.

Let this be a lesson to anyone using movers or storage - be sure to write in the actual value of the goods you are having them handle, otherwise liability is limited to some ridiculously low amount per pound.

Default that's not the half of it.. sounds like you got of lucky, relatively speaking...

I've never had the pleasure of dealing with moving companies, but I've heard that a lot of them try to f*ck people by bidding low as an estimate, just to get the business, then when the final bill is totalled up, it ends up being WAY more than they estimated.

If you try to dispute it and refuse to pay the difference, they won't unload your stuff from the truck, in fact, they take it to a storage facility and hold your belongings hostage... and charge you a storage fee, until you decide so settle up.

F*cking sheisters.

Default the biggest problem is that the law protects the movers, and not the consumers

For example, even if they're negligent, they are only liable for up to the actual value of the goods (if you remembered to designate it on the contract, otherwise it's 30 cents/lb), and you are stuck with court costs and attorneys fees. You are probably also stuck with paying THEIR attorneys fees - seems to be a standard clause in the contract. It seems like there's just no winning for consumers. It makes me mad.

Default I guess you don't have much stuff...?

as much as movers suck, moving ourselves not an option.

Default ha ha... I have truckloads of junk...

Between Kim and I, we have a full house of furniture, tons of clothes, music equipment, gym equipment, tools, car stuff... etc. etc.. We probably have as much crap to move, if not more, than the average family... and we're only two people. We are just starting to hunt for houses, so we'll be moving within the next year or so. But we'll definately do it ourselves.

I'm just so untrusting towards movers. I've been pretty lucky so far with moving my own stuff in the past. Usually two or three trips with a large uhaul truck and a couple of buddies to help me load stuff and I'm good to go.

I'm more of a "why pay someone to do something when I can do it myself for free, and usually do a better job at it anyway?"... kind of person.

Now if I was moving to another state, then maybe... maybe I'd hire someone. But just across town... I do it myself.
