I chowed down at Nine Steakhouse this weekend...
The drinks are on the pricey side ($5-10 beers, $10-16 mixed drinks) but are done quite well. All the drinks we got (chimay to martinis) were prepared well and served at the perfect temperature.
The food was absolutely fantastic. The appetizers were quite good and well-balanced. I had a filet mignon which they cooked to a perfect medium rare, and it was excellent. My girlfriend got the black cod miso, which I would suggest as a first choice for anybody going there. The sides were a slight let-down, not all that great and comparatively expensive. It certainly didn't tarnish the meal though.
The prices go everywhere from the mid teens for chicken, to $95 an ounce for caviar or $120+ for lobster tail. Thankfully, unlike many places the price is actually reflective of the type of food ordered (no $40 linguine here). It is certainly an expensive restaurant, but was one of the few places spending that money actually felt worthwhile.
The service was spot-on. Our waiter knew the menu forwards and backwards and was very attentive but not intrusive. Same goes for all the other employees.
The decor is futuristic lounge themed, which could have seemed trashy but worked very well here. There was a perfect amount of lighting, and a very pleasing blue hue reflected down from above their bar. The tables were spaced perfectly and far enough away from each other that conversations weren't overlapping.
All in all, I thought this was an amazing restaurant. I highly recommend it.
There are other places in the city that are more consistent with both good food and service. (And for a place with great food and service with a similar atmosphere try Japonais next time.)
