Default Wheel cleaner advice needed.

Yeah, I searched the usual forums. So I have a set of wheels that won't come clean due to track pad dust and neglect by the previous owners. I have used all of the usual brands including P21S and none of them do much. I have used cleaner wax, scotchbrite pads, a polishing ball on the end of a drill, etc. The crap is still there, especially in the corners of the SL design. The crap doesn't bother me too much since the wheels were bought to track, not to go to cruise nights. That said, I leave the track tires on much of the time.

Am not looking for a nice gentle cleaner. I want to know what race teams use to take the brake dust off of their big BBS forged wheels. What's the most burly product out there? What is the most acidic? What can I spray on, brush, and then hose off right away. Then tell me who sells it. Please and thanks.

Default Try clay bar..

Also check the Auto detailing forum for some ideas on a more acidic cleaner.

Default Have you tried using a clay bar on them?

Depends on exactly what's on them, but clay is great for removing those little specks of brake dust and crud that get stuck on wheels.

Default LOL. They have grown tired of my sarcastic tone. But seriously,

I'm not interested in advice on very expensive yet gentile products that Madge would put her seal of approval on. I'm looking for the miracle cure. I want lighting in a bottle. I want to spray it on and watch that **** magically disappear. I could clay bar them, but I'm a man of limited time and motivation.

I use Nu Look car wash on Lemont Road. There is a short guy with spiky hair that does a good job.

Default Sandblast and re-paint.

But seriously, if I can remember it we use an industrial cleaner at work that is pretty impressive. IIRC it's the same stuff as "whitewall tire cleaner", but not diluted. It may take off the paint and will probably take off your skin if you're not careful.

Are you brave enough and do you accept the possible adverse consequences?

Otherwise - try Castrol wheel cleaner. I haven't seen it around in awhile, but it was the best at removing brake dust.

Default Wanna borrow my 2200 psi power washer?

On an old set of wheels from the former P car, that worked wonders at taking the Hawk Blue crud out of the wheels.

Default 2nd that. The problem is that these wheels are worse than just brake dust.....

.... more like brake cement in the corners several mm thick. I know the lazy ****** who owned them before him, they're pretty bad.

Nope. I love the clay bar on the body, but doing the wheels might take all day.
