Default Very scary DE prescedent legally established.......

I'm sorry two people lost their lives, but this lawsuit could (should?) change the way DE events are managed and inusred. I think we do a really good job with our ACCCC events, but it doesn't mean we're immune.

DE Carrera GT crash lawsuit settlement

Default lots of blame to go around, plus this was in a california court where anything's possible

not to say the widow didn't deserve to be compensated, the interpretation of the waiver is interesting

Default Wow, what a load of BS....

Its really terrible what happened but IMO the only ones to blame are California speedway and subsequently the Ferrari club. Not one or the other driver. Not Porsche.

First time I hear about the wall being moved and pictures make it look like a big move! And then not having any tire walls at the very least given the track flow (clockwise). That's really surprising. Somebody's tire could blow out on the straightaway and loss of control at 100+mph would be imminent. Hitting that wall nearly dead-on would be deadly in any case.

Blaming the Porsche for not designing the car the way the lawyer thinks it should have been designed is kinda lame, but I can see their arguments.

If in fact Ferrari club let this CGT pass tech with actually having knowledge of potential mechanical problem(even though it wasn't that), that is really bad. I also think they should have had better rules for pit-out traffic or oncoming traffic.

I mean what do "we" do at ABCC south or Gingerman(similar pit-in scenarios) as far as approaching a car that's pitting out?

Default

in the end....each driver would have some responsibility for any situation that occurs on the track

Default The parts that bothered me>>>>

Requiring all participants to have a shop do tech but deviating from that for some people
Blaming Porsche because the car oversteers...hell, that's every Porsche ever made.
If the track configuration was safe enough for NASCAR, why wasn't it safe enough for a Ferrari Club event.
Lawyers ruin everything fun.

Default agreed....everything's fine until someone gets hurt or killed

i think the way we do our tech inspection and handle our events leaves very little to chance, if someone has an on track incident it's addressed immediately, looks like the driver of the cgt had a few issues before this happened, and was allowed to continue

They only hit Porsche for 2% of the settlement, or $90,000. Effectively, zilch.
