Reason #36 not to drink too much - and #42 on valuing life.

I got a call tonight from my mother letting me know that my 55yr old uncle had a few too many drinks a couple days ago and fell down a flight of steps. Long story short, his fall smashed a couple Vertebrae. He was paralyzed the first couple days after the fall, and this morning went into cardiac arrest. Doctors were able to revive him, but now he's pretty much brain dead and can only breathe on a respirator. My mother is on her way now to central IL to be there when they "pull the plug."

He leaves behind a wife and two children (20 and 23).

VERY SAD DAY. Of all my uncles, he was the closest to me.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers.

As it turns out, this is an even tougher situation than initially assessed. My uncle CAN communicate, but only by blinking his eyes. Doctors say he'll never talk, move, eat, or breathe on his own ever again. My uncle made it quite clear that does not want to live the rest of his life in this state - and that he wants the plug pulled.

Really tough decision placed on the family. Nothing is going to be done today, as it's his wife's birthday today.
