IL emissions testing question re B5 S4 with gutted downpipes and relocated O2 sensors...
This will be my first emissions test in IL. Do I understand correctly that it's just an OBD diagnostic? I would like to just clear the codes with VAG-COM and go in, but from what I can tell they will fail you if your car's computer doesn't have at least several days of history. Is that correct?
So is there anything I need to do in advance? Other than warming the car up to get the cats hot I mean.
Also, I'm in Grayslake in Lake County, so is Waukegan about the only place to go?

There is a readiness code
If you clear the check engine light, it has to run for some period of time and get a rediness code that says it's good to go. That's all you need...
1. Check engine light is illuminated when the ignition is on.
2. It goes off with the engine running (no codes).
3. Readiness code is present....it needs less than a few hours to get this.

you need to set readiness...
you can do it by driving around... you can also set them manually with the VAG... well, technically, you don't set them manually, but using the vag and the correct blocks, you can get the readiness test to initiate, and then, provided you pass, your readiness will be set. I have watched people do it, but I don't know the exact blocks to look for, etc, but the block will say "test off" or whatnot...
So I am saying you can set readiness in as little as a 1/2 hour if you know where to go in vag, how to initiate the test in vag, and the car decides to cooperate.

You can monitor readiness using VAG so you'll know if your "passable" prior to going in....
What box are you (A, H, M) ?
You can take an ECU that has readiness passed and pop it in 3 blocks from the testing center and you'll pass.
