Default When you get an opportunity to chase down a CGT, you take it.....

Wasn't me driving. Mark White was helping me sort out some suspension issues and he happened to come across Jim Bauer and his CGT. Jim's a good driver but you could put Mark in a Miata (with all due respect to Miata owners) and he could hunt down most people.

I'm certainly not used to cars pulling away from my car but in the case of a CGT I guess I can accept that.

Nonetheless the little red Track **** hangs in there for the back straight. Check out how that other car on the track seems like it's standing still when they go by it.

What I liked about the passing zones in the instructor group for this Audi event was pass anywhere on the track so long as your wheels are straight. On Monday for Track Daze and Jeremy Jens and his crew, it was pass anywhere, period. I would love for our group to do that. It forces you to rethink your line through the turns assuming you have to point someone by and makes you so much more aware at every point on the track. Of course you don't have to point anyone by if you're uncomfortable but what fun would that be? Definitely was a learning experience and one that I would love to do again.

Now, on to the video....<ul><li><a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=8CZ1abmomL8">CGT Chase</a></li></ul>

Default On the back straight I was hitting 145 and that was with another occupant all the time. Considering

I weigh substantially more than Mark and he didn't have a passenger I'd say he was scooting along even faster. The most I could coax out of the Cayman before I had to throw the hooks out was 132, and that was with Janica in the car too.

Default 145 was my top too. The other straight was almost the same. Great fun!

I wussed out on the roller coaster and the climbing esses though. I'm still replaying that trip in my head!
That CGT was like a bullet, especially on the straights!

Default That was his first session in the car and Doug did a lot of of suspension tweaking at the track. He

got a lot smoother as time went on but he was also afraid to push it too hard as my front left wheel bearing eventually went. His fear was the damage he was going to do to the car. Personally I didn't care so I told him to push it. What was happening was as the wheel bearing started seizing under load it was triggering the ABS and ESP as it would bind up under load (right turns/front left load) and try and bring the car to a stop. I have an ABS defeat switch on the dash panel and by killing it you effectively kill the ESP as well since it uses the ABS to control the car's actions/movement. Once off however we had to be mindful of flat spotting the tires as grip was real tough all weekend with colder temps. R compounds don't work too well when the morning temperature is 28 degrees! Obviously it warmed up during the day.

I'll post some more of him in his last session and you can hear the bearing seizing up on load. Makes you cringe a bit but it had to be replaced anyway so who cares!

Default You were getting 13 mph more than I was in the Cayman? You had me by 1/2 a car length at the top of

the hill when we dragged up it!

Default I got off to a bad start at the tree! Most of the time ...

I was bouncing off the limiter in 4th, which is about 142 ish. Sometimes I shifted to 5th but it didn't help much, if any. I was trying to break in my clutch "GENTLY"! will post some video later. Too bad my memory card ran out on our last run. It was the most fun!
