Default Rockford IL...Pothole anger

I drove down Alpine road yesterday, where the potholes were so bad I thought the car was toast for sure! They even had construction signs and all they said was be careful(no work being done)...My dad went to the stealer to have brakes done on his car today. Dealer warned my dad to stay off Alpine as peoples suspensions and axles were snapping! I think it should be legal to sue the city for damages(or can you?). **** Illinois road works! I've heard Chicago is awful as well...Haven't been downtown in awhile. First the snow plowers toss salt pelts at my car on purpose and now sinkholes...If you can't beat em' join em', time for a Unimog!

Default I just dont agree with the mentality of people who think a lawsuit is the answer to everything

the city doesn't bend wheels, drivers do when they hit pot holes because they tailgate the person in front of them. if you bend a wheel deal with it and get a new one.

this is the same misguided mentality of the people who buy expensive cars, refuse to buy snow tires and then get pissed at the dealer or manufacture when they crash in foul weather.

or what about the people who think automakers should be held liable for car damaged as a result of the driver running the car into a parking block

I could go on and on...

Default Can't second to either ones.

If a huge pothole is right in the middle of intersection. And you make a left turn ofcourse you will end up tailgating the person infront.

I was not "speeding", was not "tailgating" either. barely made the turn at 5-10 mph ... fracked up my passenger front. That freaking thing was deep.

The city has really done a terrible job on the roads thats why they are crumbling like cookies. Heck we dont even get that much snow compared to the euro countries/cities. This just boils down to crappy workmanship & material being used.

Default You are so wrong

Do you know what creates pot holes? It's a combination of water, freezing temps, thawing temps, rain, freezing temps, huge pressures from cars, etc. etc.

Can't you figure out that this year has been the worst conditions for this? It has. If it froze and stayed frozen, then none of this happens.

If the road is brand new and water doesn't leak below the surface, it doesn't happen. But the roads are not brand new and this happens. This year much more than normal.

That's it. It's not crappy workmanship and materials. This is Chicago, they use some of the best techniques due to the design requirements of the traffic.

Go to a place like CT with rural roads, they crumble really easy, but then again, they have a lot less traffic.

Default Comparing with roads within US elsewhere wont help much

besides I was disagreeing with the points being made about tailgating & slowing down. And neither have to be true for not getting an expensive repair.

As far as roads conditions are concerned compare it with "countries" that do get snow and do have old (some are alot older) roads as well. None of the reasons you gave prove any difference in driving conditions either.
