Moving to GA in 2 weeks.................
So, I am trading the road salt on my TT for the ocean salt.
Of all the big cities one could live in there is not one better than Chicago. It combines the friendliness of the south with the good nature of the midwest.
Daly has done a fine job cleaning this city up from where it was 30 years ago when I would travel here.
If I have any complaint, it is the unbelieveable high taxes of Dupage county. Having lived alot of other places, don't believe for a second anyone in Dupage county is getting something better. We just pay those high taxes to pay for all those workers to go out at lunch and get drunk and for plow guys to scrape a bare street over and over. Trust me, schools are no better here than anywhere else. Kids in those $100mm schools in Naperville do not learn any better than those in other parts of this country. Folks will really wake up here one day and realize how unfair the taxes are. Oh, by the way, Dupage county has a pot hole problem too.
Enough of the rant. This was a good place to live.

I don't care who is out to lunch. If there is corruption in goverment, it is hardly isolated to Dupage County. Since you praise Daily, I would suggest that the politcal environment he was mentored in was not only one of corruption, but one where **** got done. Lunch barely registers on the meter. It's Chicago, damn it.
As far as the schools go, I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. I have two high level school administrators in my family and I can tell you that $100m is relative when it comes to building a school. If it costs that much to build a good school, then I'll bet it doesn't cost much less to build a ****ty one. The cost of building something is only a little part of the total cost of ownership. It's what they do with that building that counts.
The teachers here are paid well and I think that is very important. They should be paid more, as they have one of the most important jobs in our civilization.
The education in my school district is ranked among the best in the nation. My taxes are under $6K per year, which is way less than the annual tuition at any accredited private school. I chose to live here for that reason.
