My first time experience at the South side Irish parade and it was an eye opener....
The married couples with kids were pissed at these guys and thats where the fights started. Some extreme racism was on display too. Some of these knuckleheads were yelling at Blacks, Asians and Hispanics who came to see the parade to "Get the fvck out of here! This is our parade not Chicago's"! We moved several times because of the sheer problems we were witnessing. The parade itself was great but the troublemakers in the crowd made it hard too enjoy. Shame too becaue there were alot of kids who were in the crowd. They didn't have to see all the bad B.S.
Some older Irish adults in the crowd were apologizing for the younger ones being *******s. What a Sunday.
I try to avoid being in the city during the St. Patrick's day celebrations.
Interestingly, in Ireland, there is a movement to postpone St. Patrick's day since it falls on the beginning of Holy Week.
after the parade was over I was up around 111th and it looked like a ****ing beer bomb went off though.
I was pretty much sober for the entire thing. didn't have any beer, just an occassional nip off my flask to stay warm... it was fun.
