Some photos of my spare tire experience

Blowout on 101 last year. Thanks to the highway work, had to drive on it for a mile to get past all the K-rails and pull over. At least the rims stayed OK. Got 30K out of the stock Goodyears.

It's kinda tricky to position the jack correctly, the jack will lift the car and move it away from you so you have to make sure the jack foot is in the right place so it will still be vertical when you're all the way up. There are old AW posts about jacks slipping out. Jack is easy to use, compressor works fine (even though it is a little slow)

I reccommend that everyone should take some time to get familiar with all the stuff in the back of their ar (especially to verify that the compressor works)

Thanks. I'd never seen the spare used. Did the wheel come off easily or were they over tightened?

Very similar experience to the Jeep I own ... small jack footprint and it has to almost extend to it's full reach to get tire off the ground. Easy to fix with a scrap piece of 2x10 lumber. Added advantage of the lumber scrap is that it makes the gravel shoulder (with it's inherent slant) not want to push out from under the jack. Only down side is storing the wood in the back.
