Putting up my hand (clearly a newbie)......

What is a DTS? A search revealed lots of discussion of which is best, mounting point issues, road height disucssions etc mostly on the A4/S4 board it looed liked, but not a single explanation of what it is/does etc. So, I'll bite, what the heck does it do and why do I need one? I assume (like most things I need, it voids my warranty) thanks

The AWE Tuning Drive Train Stabilizer (DTS) eliminates transmission shakes?

Additional brace for manual transmissions inside the engine compartment. Check out the AWE site for more info.

Are any modifications to the undercarriage required, or is it "plug and play?"

I seem to remember something about trimming or grinding exhaust braces. Also, the consensus seems to be that additional "road noise" is experienced. What noise, exactly? (rattles, creaks, or just plain tires/tranny/engine noise?)

Here's the deal.

I put on a DTS last week, so I'll answer for the ex-tanker. There is a small but noticable increase in structure-borne drivetrain noise. It's not vibration you feel, it's noise you hear. Mostly it's gear whine, and it's not bad. But it is there. The only mod required is sawing off the edge of a protective collar on the downpipe, where it goes over the cross-brace. The cross-brace will do the protecting, so the collar isn't needed. Clearance to the cross-brace *is* needed. AWE's instructions show the mod and describe the tools needed.
