Since oil changes are free for 4 years how much extra are you charged for specifying Mobil 1 oil?

$35 for oil (u buy) + $25 for labor
I buy Mobil 1 oil (around $35 worth or $5x7) and then let the dealer install the oil for free at 10,000 mile intervals. If you put oil at 5,000, 15,000, 25,000 ... then I pay $25+ for the oil change.

With my TT and allroad I bring my own Mobil1- I inform the service writer
that I'm bringing my own oil and will have it on the front passenger seat so the tech will notice. I bring a 6 pack for the TT and always have a quart still in the box, and 10 quarts for the allroad (4.2) which takes 9 quarts. I figure the extra quart is in case of a spill. Mobil1 can be had for about $4/quart. My dealer says they use conventional oil for the changes. Doesn't make sense to me as the car comes with synthetic and the 10K mile oil changes. Mercedes had a class action suit about oil sludging and damaging engines with their extended intervals. Our E300TD diesel will let us go on average 13K before the FSS (flexible service system) says to change the oil. MB gave extended engine warranties and switched to synthetic at dealers. I change the oil in the diesel myself at about 7K which splits the interval- makes me feel better.

I'd been taking Mobil 1 to my dealer's service department...
...every time I went, except once.
When the 2003 (or maybe 2002, I forget) Porsches began specifying Mobil 1 0W40, the service dept. started carrying it, so I had them use their own.
They charged me for 9(!) qts. @ $5.25 each (no credit for the regular oil they didn't use, either).
With a new filter, the car takes 7 (I know this for an absolute fact, having watched an indie do a change from start to finish) and I can get it from AutoZone for $4.99 or less.
Now that I'm over 50K miles, I'm not going back to the dealer until I get a new car, which won't be from them. HPH
PS: Before anyone asks: Premier Motorcars in Albuquerque.

Whats the "real" advantage?
Just curious as I'll be in shortly for my 5k service and am giving thought to bringing my own Mobil 1. I realize its "better" oil, but more effecient in terms of engine op, more power or just hopefully improved engine longevity????

I think of it as cheap insurance...
...because I'm planning to keep my allroad for another 18 months or so (at which point I'll be creeping up on 100K miles).
Mobil 1 0W40 is European-spec'd synthetic oil, better than the 0W30. And keeping those turbines well-lubricated seems to me to be a way to be nice to the car. That way, I'm hoping it'll be nice to me. HPH
