2002 allroad Electrical Gremlins
- center display indicated that front passenger and both rear passenger doors were open (they were not)
- alarm would not arm from remote
- alarm tripped while parked (upon return only saw hazards flashing, no horn)
- sunroof, window, seat adjustment, lock, map light switches inoperable
Otherwise, the car drove fine. Climate control, radio, headlights, wipers, air suspension all worked.
I took it to the dealer and they found two shorts in the wiring inside the driver-side headliner near the visor and under the driver seat. It took 5+ hours of labor and a few dollars for parts (fuses, wires). The repair would have cost me $569 had it not been under warranty.
When I picked up the car, my service advisor had already left and I couldn't ask him about the cause. Another advisor speculated that it was vibration causing wires to rub together wearing out the insulation. Hmmm...
Whatever the case, I'm just a little perturbed. It leaves me wondering about future reliability as my allroad has < 14K miles. I've seen similar posts about this same problem and I'll add my experience to this forum as another data point.
