Default Purchase advise

I am currenlty leasing a 2002 allroad @730.48/ month and have 11 more months on the lease. Out of curiosity, I called Audi to inquire about purchasing the car now and terminating the lease. Audi offered $680/month for 60 months @ 5.75% on a purchase price of $35800. The drop in monthly payment is not compelling enough to justify, but the fact that I would no longer be restricted by the lease is worth considering. Any advise or insight? The car has 25000 miles on it and is basically perfect. Should I wait until the end of the lease and buy the car for the payoff of ~$26500 + the rental charges (~$2000)?

Default Purchased new $50K 2003 @ $682/mo x 60 mo @ 1.9% from Audi Financial late Aug '03

with $10K down plus an end of year discount.

I think you'd be better off buying a new 2004 on a similar deal.

What about your warranty? Looks like you'll be out of warranty well before being paid for.

Default Warranty will be an issue. Thanks for responding...

It looks like the allroad might be replaced by a Volvo XC90 at the end of the lease...its the wife's car and she wants a third row seat.
I will hate to see it go, but I can not justify parking such a nice car @ the train station 5 days a week if I were to take it for myself.

Default Re: Purchase advise

$35,800 is near retail from a dealer so that's a little high. They have no cost associated with reconditioning/cleaning/marketing.

You would have no problem getting someone to assume your lease. Someone assuming your lease will effectively be paying negative 4% interest based on current value, residual, and the payment amount.

I would think that car would be worth around $30k at the end of your lease.

Default Thanks for responding. I love the car...

and intended to buy it at lease end. Any thoughts on warranty and long term expense?

Default I think extended warranty a must.

If you want to keep the car, I think an extended warranty is necessary. A repair to the turbos or suspension system could be VERY expensive. Our lease on an '01 is up at the end of this year. If we choose to keep it we'll get an extended warranty, problem is what to get. Apparently the "Audi Assured" warranty is actually third party, I worry about claims problems, especially on a real expensive repair like the turbos or suspension.
