Default When someone starts making a manual-tranny turbo wagon, I'll think about it.

Must be a turbo motor, mod-able to 400 hp, have many aftermarket parts available, including exhaust, brake upgrades, etc. Also must be large enough to haul windsurfing gear and teenagers.

I would like to say yes, but its too soon to tell.
If I hadn't read of the experiences in the forum I would vote yes, but I would rather know of potential issues than bury my head in the sand. Tend to be a keeper. Still driving 87 4000Q winter car and have 91 200 with approx 400k.
03 ar 2.7 tip blk.

Default Probably not...

I do love my ar, but to be honest, I love it for what it potentially could be, not what it IS as delivered. Handling is sloppy, brakes are weak, and the tip...well, you all know about the tip. And yes, I know that all of these things can be corrected (except the tip, yes, I should have bought the 6sp). But here's the problem:

I dont want to, and I shouldn't have to.

I don't want to spent the time OR the money rebuilding the car with extensive mods. So I'll probably look at selling it this summer, and getting into:
an S4 avant?
a Cadillac CTS-V?
an E39 M5 (pre owned)?
an E60 545i 6spd (ugly, but goes like snot)?

The alternative is that I'll pick up a clean used TT, and drive THAT for fun, and keep the ar, and appreciate it for ALL the things it does so well. And it does many things very well.

CAVEAT: This is coming from a new-car addict who has almost never kept a car over 2 yrs.

Default Yup, then again, it's a diesel, should last forever with a bit of TLC :)

In the land of the terminally taxed, Ireland, it's probably the wisest thing to do after buying such a vehicle new when I had to pay close on €70,000.00 for it, the initial depreciation is huge. If it behaves itself, I'll keep it.

It's also a tip, I get enough stick shifting during the day with company transport. allroad gearshift is also on steering, no lag, off the brake, onto the accellerator, and whoosh, no delay. Engine braking is good, so much so, barely use brakes, except in built up areas.

Viciously quick for a diesel, and great fun to drive, can leave quite a few boy racers in it's wake, especially on hills where "they" get bogged down

Default 300 hp from a 5 cylinder turbo that will push a 3,800 lb AWD wagon to 60 mph in 5.4 sec

Why do I get the feeling that this engine is tuned to the edge of exploding? Anyone hear of these cars having issues?

Default Agreed...it felt tuned to within an inch of its life.

This is one engine I'd definitely be afraid to push any farther, so if 400 hp is the goal, I'd rule this out. Having said that, it's a fast, fun, and frenetic engine.
