Default Max tire size for a '04 allroad

Did a search, this is probably covered someplace but couldn't find it. Am buying a set of Michellin Pilot Sport A/S tires. Can get 255-45-18 cheaper than the speced plus one 245-45-18. Plan to run on Ronal R-38's or R-7's. Can I get the 255's under the car without clearance issues. I want the wider tires as they are a 1"+ larger than my P-6's and I like the look. Any help is appreciated

Default Yep, no problems, and fuel mileage and cruise speed, both

benefit!

Default What?!

Never before heard of improved mileage or top speed with wider tires... ever. Wider = more rolling resistance, pure and simple.

Default Yes but they fit without rubbing...right?

The 255-45-18's are an inch + wider than the Perilli 225-55-17's. I would imagine that the Plus one wheels are offset more than the stock 17" wheels, but has anyone ever run this extra size? I can barely fit my finger between the suspension and the tire with the stockers on there now. Fuel mileage makes no difference to me, but I imagine that the ride is better along with handling...Thanks guys!

Default Tires aren't wider by much at all but they are taller by an inch which

changes the final drive ratio

Default Yes on the correct wheel which is more important than the tire size

have them on RS4 wheels no problem.

Default Wider by 1+", but taller?

(255-245)*0.45*2=9mm diameter increase, a little less than 3/8".

Sorry, being retentive is a hard habit to break

Default Audi Rs4 replicas?

No I meant an inch difference between a 225-55-17 stocker and a 255-45-18 Michellin. But your point is well taken, the 3/8" is not much of a difference between the 245 and the 255.
Are your RS wheels replica's or are they the Audi marketed product? The Rs4's that I saw on WWW.ACHTUNING.COM need a 12 mm spacer/hubcentric ring. Can you guys give any positive or negative comments about these rings/wheels/combo? Apparently the '04 allroad has different brakes requiring a different wheel offset. $745 from Audi vs $250 with some spacer/rings seems like a deal if the wheel is good. Any comments?

Default Mine are Audi OEM. Also you can't count on manufacturers'

stated specs. The tires vary wildly within a manufacturers product line let alone between manufacturers. Also the rim you put them on will change the actual aspect ratio and tire height, due to variences in the rims width.

Default Nope, I have used the same rims on all three of my allroads

01 01 04. The brakes have changed actually for the better in my experience. I like the feel of the single piston style, and haven't noticed any decrease in braking.
